The relationship between a household pet and its owner is probably the nearest that most of us come to experiencing unconditional love. The inevitable ending of this relationship is very painful. Remembering it can soothe the pain - but memories fade and preserving a memory for ever is not easy. Our glass sculptures – Pets in Peace – preserve your cherished memory of the relationship in a beautifully permanent and translucent form.
Encapsulating the ashes of your household pet in a unique Swedish Crystal glass sculpture is a symbolic way to preserve your memory of the relationship for ever.
Each Memorial Glass Sculpture is made by hand by Swedish glass artists. They work the ashes into the swirl of coloured glass at the heart of each clear glass sculpture, where they are clearly visible, permanently preserved for all to see. Erika and Amy, who create our glass sculptures, were educated at Konstfack, the famous Art Academy established in Stockholm in 1844. They developed their skills at the well-known Swedish glassmakers Kosta Boda and now work in a small town just north of Stockholm, at a glass factory called Glasbolaget i Bro, where they melt shards of recycled crystal glass from the Kosta and Reijmyre glassworks, using recovered surplus heat from a nearby industry. Djurum, the first fully sustainable pet crematorium in Sweden, is thus able to claim that our Memorial Glass Sculptures have a near-zero carbon footprint like ours.
The ashes you send us are melted into clear molten crystal glass at 1000°C, together with crystals of coloured glass of your choice, forming a swirl at its heart. The glass artists then shape the glass into the external shape you prefer - a globe or a heart - using hand-held wooden forms lubricated with water. Many years of experience are required to do this safely and every resulting glass sculpture is unique. You acquire a beautiful, permanent and translucent memorial of your relationship, a memory for life. Your faithful companion can rest in it in peace, so we call these glass sculptures “Pets in Peace”.
